Bleeding Women! Improve women's health care in the UK
The Issue
Demand the government prioritise Women's Health! Are you fed up with being told to "just deal with" the life-controlling aspects of your lady parts?
Women give birth to literally everyone, in the whole world. Yet the organs that let us do that are neglected by medicine. We are told to suck it up. I've had enough.
- Make internal ultrasounds as standard as smear tests.
- Provide guidance to women and girls on how to support thier pelvic floor to reduce the number of women with their organs falling out of thier vaginas after giving birth.
- Take menopause seriously as a severe health issue
- provide standard hormone tests for women at all stages of their cycle, so they can understand whats going on with thier bodies
Why this petition?
I basically can't move far away from a bathroom for 48 hours every month. I bleed so heavily that I am constantly buying new bedsheets, new jeans, and more. At the ripe old age of 47, I finally had an internal ultrasound—something that is standard in Germany—only to discover I have all kinds of lumps and bumps inside me that need to come out. I am now stuck on a very long waiting list. The (male) doctor told me, "Polyps and fibroids are normal." Well, Doc, the Plague used to be normal. It wasn't great though, was it? Just because its "normal" for women to suffer with horrible periods, organ prolapses, and go completely mental during peri meniopause, doesnt mean its ok. AND it doesnt mean there is nothing we can do about it.
This is not just our story; it's the story of countless other women in the UK. Mulitple friends have had prolapses, been badly advised about pelvic floor exercises, or not, and had to change their life-style completely to deal with this "normal" thing of parts of your body falling out after having a baby.
It’s a widespread issue that affects the quality of life for millions of women, yet it is continuously overlooked by the system. It’s time to improve women's health care treatment and facilities. Waiting months or even years for what should be considered urgent medical procedures is simply unacceptable.
In the UK, many women struggle with similar conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Statistics show that around 20-30% of women develop fibroids by the age of 50, with these numbers disproportionately affecting women of African Caribbean origin. These conditions lead to pain, discomfort, and a significant impact on their daily lives, work, and well-being.
Compared to other countries like Germany, where diagnostic procedures like internal ultrasounds are routinely accessible, the UK lags behind significantly. This leads to delayed diagnoses and treatments, exacerbating the physical and emotional toll on women. The National Health Service (NHS) needs urgent reform and investment in women's health services.
Im not a doctor. I dont know how to change this, but with this petition we want to demand this issue to be higher up on the priority list.
By bringing attention to these issues, we can advocate for necessary changes that improve healthcare outcomes for women in the UK. These steps will ensure that women do not have to suffer in silence and can lead healthier, happier lives. Please sign this petition to demand better women's health care in the UK. Your support could be the catalyst for change that so many women desperately need.
