Blanch Centre Goldman Sachs housing: demand 50% affordable

The Issue

Housing emergency Blanchardstown -
demand 50% affordable housing in Blanch Centre development

An Bord Pleanala has approved the Goldman Sachs high rise for 971 apartments in Blanchardstown Centre.

The reasonable concerns of residents about height, transport capacity, GPS & schools provision and fire safety were ignored,  as well as the request for an oral hearing.

The conditions imposed by the Bord are identical to those in the original planning decision by Fingal County Council. More changes would be imposed on a house extension than for this large project.

In fact ABP wrote down the developers levies for Goldman Sachs!!

This has nothing to do NIMBYism.

This is about the nature of housing during a housing emergency.

485 of the 971 apartments are one-bedroom –  clearly a development aimed at profit gouging from high rents.

We've a  severe housing crisis in Dublin 15.

Fingal Council and the state are taking a back seat. Big vulture funds like Goldman Sachs are in the driving seat, charging exorbitant rents.

We need action now for young people stuck at home, families on the housing list and essential workers like teachers and nurses who can’t afford rents.

Sign the petition to say:

1. Fingal Council should not sign an agreement with the developer to accept only 10% of the apartments would be social and affordable.

2. Instead we call on  Council management, the councillors, the Taoiseach and the government ministers in Dublin West to seek  to acquire 50% of the units  from the developer to alleviate the local housing crisis.

John a protest being called by residents at the Blanchardstown Council meeting on Thursday  22 June 3pm.
