Bermuda Black History- Public School Curriculum

Bermuda Black History- Public School Curriculum
The Issue
In the light of the cancellation of a Bermudian historical holiday Cup match, (which Bermuda will be celebrating Mary Prince Day instead of Somers Day for the first time this year) and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, now is the perfect time to fight for Bermudian Black History to become a permanent part of the Public School’s Curriculum.
Sign this petition for our history to be taught to our youth covering everything from trailblazer movements: The Movie Theatre boycott and the 1977 Riot, to our amazing leaders like L. F Wade and Dame Lois Brown- Evans, to teaching about The Recorder newspaper and Fame magazine that played a major role in representing the black perspective from a media standpoint, and more.
Our history is amazing and exciting. Let’s teach our youth about it!
We are aware that there is a petition already being circulated geared towards teaching Global Black History and while we are in support of it, this petition is focused solely on Bermuda Black History.
