I made this petition to make sure that everyone can enjoy downtown Bismarck without fear of train accidents. This issue affects everyone who enjoys DT Bismarck and we need change now! Please sign and share with others!

    In light of the recent pedestrian train death, I want something to be done to prevent pedestrians from crossing the tracks at all. I was someone who walked the tracks to get from The Elbow Room to Borrowed Bucks or vice versa. I must've made this walk hundreds of times. After about the 5th time, you aren't scared of a train anymore and "it won't happen to me" becomes the mentality. I was downtown when the accident happened on early Sunday morning. I heard the word "deceased", I saw the gurney, I saw the friends, and most disheartening I saw people that didn't care or give a second glance that direction and just continued on with their night as if a human life wasn't just taken prematurely. 

     I think that in the end a pedestrian overpass would be best. It could start by the crosswalk on the other side of the street from elbow room and slightly angle to end on the same side of the street to bucks. Even a couple small overpasses on the sidewalks on 5th and 3rd would be great to encourage use of the side walks. 

     I don't want to see another life lost by something preventable.
