Please STOP layoffs/reducing/outsourcing services at St. John’s Hospital

Please STOP layoffs/reducing/outsourcing services at St. John’s Hospital
The Issue
We need quality healthcare services right here in our community that are accessible and able to address our physical and mental health needs of our 130,000+ residents.
We, the residents of the Rockaways, deserve first class healthcare services right here in our community that are accessible and able to address our physical and mental health needs.
The Department of Health has identified that St. John’s Episcopal Hospital – our only hospital in the Rockaways – must affiliate with a stable healthcare network in order to survive for the long-term. While, St. John’s shows interest in an affiliation with the Catholic Health System, we believe that such an affiliation will not be in the best interest of our community. North Shore-LIJ, a system with a proven record of success, wanted to do an assessment and potentially form a merger agreement but the Board of Trustees of SJEH, led by its Chairman, Bishop Lawrence Provenzano, refused to allow such assessment. This is OUR hospital and we must demand that the Chairman of the Board of Trustees – Bishop Lawrence Provenzano – do what is right by this community.
