The Issue

We, the undersigned Ward 4 parents, guardians, and community members fully support and endorse the use of the former Scarlett Heights premises as a strategic and practical temporary relocation site for Bishop Allen Academy during the construction of Bishop Allen’s new facility.

Background

Bishop Allen Academy has been approved for a new school replacement. The existing Bishop Allen Academy will be demolished, and a new school built in its place. The TCDSB has acquired the necessary funding and permits to start construction on a new Bishop Allen Academy in September 2026.

Recently, the TCDSB acquired Scarlett Heights property, located at 15 Trehorne Drive and Royal York Road, making Scarlett Heights an ideal temporary relocation site for Bishop Allen given Scarlett Heights’ close proximity to Bishop Allen and the communities it serves.

Why Scarlett Heights?

Keeps Students Close to Home: Scarlett Heights is nearby, allowing students to maintain their routines and providing families with a stable, accessible solution which is on the same street as Bishop Allen Academy, Royal York Road.

Value Add: While Bishop Allen Academy is operating in Scarlett Heights, the TCDSB can use this time to plan, organize, acquire additional funding required, gather resources, obtain any permits, recruit and hire staff, obtain a student body, and execute on a plan to launch a new Catholic secondary school in Central Etobicoke, all of which is currently outstanding and takes significant time.

Our Request

We respectfully urge the TCDSB to designate Scarlett Heights as the temporary relocation site for Bishop Allen. Additionally, we request a feasibility study to evaluate this option.

The temporary relocation site should remain as close as possible to the existing Bishop Allen Academy location, preserving cohesion of the school community and minimizing disruption to students’ academic, physical, social, mental, spiritual, economic, and civic lives.

Selecting Scarlett Heights as the temporary relocation site aligns with community preferences and mitigates the risk of students and families leaving the Catholic school system.
