Pedestrian (Pelican) Crossing on Brandwood Park Road opposite Dawberry Fields Park.
The Issue
We the residents of Brandwood Ward would like Birmingham City Council to install a pelican crossing on Brandwood Park Road, near to the footpath entrance to Dawberry Fields Park.
Brandwood Park Road is an exceptionally busy road, and with parked cars on both sides of the road, finding a spot with suitable visibility to ensure a safe crossing can be dreadful for pedestrians.
Many children attending Allen’s Croft School have to cross this busy road during the busy rush hour period, and the absence of a crossing of any sort on this road makes this extremely dangerous.
The installation of a crossing would ensure that children and their parents are able to confidently cross the road and arrive at school safely. It will also benefit other members of the community, including those who are elderly or disabled, who may not feel confident crossing Brandwood Park Road.
Due to the volume of parked cars we feel that a zebra crossing would not be suitable, as motorists are unable to see pedestrians at the kerb. We therefore believe that a pelican or other crossing with traffic lights would ensure the safety of pedestrians and ensure that motorists are aware of the need to stop.
