Leniency for Housing
The Issue
This semester has been a very peculiar semester to say the least. Many people have opted to take a full semester’s worth of classes online, whereas others decided to try to proceed as usual, being in some classes that offer a hybrid in-person/online model of teaching. With that being said, it has not fully solved the issue of surging COVID-19 cases as the University had to go through 2 separate pauses to in-person learning in order to try and ameliorate this issue. Though this seems to be effective, I feel as if it does not make sense for the housing policy for this academic year to be so strict as in years past as these are very different times in which some students do not feel as safe on campus as they once did. I believe that students who want to opt out of spring housing amid the spikes in cases during the semester should be allowed to do so without any qualms or repercussions.
