BILSTHORPE RECYCLING CENTRE

The Issue

My community and I deeply value the Bilsthorpe recycling centre located at Brailwood Rd, Bilsthorpe, Newark NG22 8UA. This facility is invaluable to us as it allows us to manage our waste effectively and maintain a clean environment. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in an era where refuse collections have been reduced while our council tax continues to rise.

The closure of this recycling centre would exacerbate the problem of waste management in our community. According to data from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), England generated approximately 37.2 million tonnes of waste in 2019 alone. With refuse collections already cut back, losing access to this recycling centre could result in an increase in unmanaged waste within our community.

Furthermore, recycling centres like ours play a crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability by reducing landfill usage and conserving natural resources. The Environmental Services Association reports that UK's recycling efforts saved more than 18 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent - roughly equivalent to taking around 12 million cars off the road for one year.

We urge you not only consider the immediate impact on Bilsthorpe but also understand that closing such facilities undermines broader environmental goals set by both local councils and national government bodies.

We implore you to reconsider any plans for closure and keep the Bilsthorpe Recycling Centre open as it serves not just as a means for waste disposal but also represents our commitment towards preserving our environment for future generations. Please sign this petition if you agree with us.
