Mental Health is a real problem for a lot of your fellow clients. This client has bravely allowed us to share her story:
"I was forced to sell the home that I had hoped to stay in until my new home was finished. The home owned by myself and my mother was too big for us to manage after my divorce and the kids moving out, so we looked to downsize and chose a townhouse. We signed up with Terrace (BGC) in February 2022.
I felt, based on the promised build time of 15-18 months, that I could manage. I was also advised that build times were improving. It became clear very early on, that the timeline was grossly inaccurate. We sold the house we were living in so we could afford rising interest rates.
We had to move in with my brother 60kms away on a rural property. This was far from the support services that were required by my 80-year old mum. She also had to give up her daily Hydrotherapy classes. This had a huge impact on, not only her physical health, but also mental health. She lost all social contact with her former friends and the isolation was most telling on her. I had an escape in being able to go to work. She did not.
The rural move created a severe strain on our mental and physical health. So we moved again to be closer to the build, but that rental didn't allow pets. So we made the difficult decision to rehome mum's companion dog of 8 years just to secure a roof over our heads.
At each point of the building process I have had to follow up with the builder. No promised deadline has been met.
My biggest fear is that we designed a house to take into account my mum's age and future needs, and she may not live to see it come to fruition. I would love for her to have a few years in the house we designed together. I have almost resigned myself to the fact that the dream is gone and once the house is complete, I may just sell it and move on to rid myself of the nightmare. I realise that my situation is far from the worst and I am grateful for that, however we should NOT have been made the promises we were made, when this company knew full well that they were not able to deliver.
If I go off the experience of others building in my estate, my build will likely stretch out to 4 years, more than double what I was promised".
Anon.
