I am launching this petition because there is a serious problem within the mental-health system. We have adult detention centers for people who are in crisis, but we don't have enough dedicated mental-health facilities for adults who experience severe episodes, become a danger to themselves and others, or need immediate intervention and treatment. In most cases, individuals who clearly need professional mental-health support end up incarcerated instead of receiving actual care. Some people even show signs of serious episodes publicly or on social media, yet there is nowhere for them to go for proper evaluation, stabilization, and long-term support. 

It is deeply alarming and heartbreaking that our society builds massive jails/detention centers to lock up adults who lack the capacity to even manage their crises, yet counties fail to provide a single dedicated mental health hospital to treat them. Jails are not psychiatric wards. The mentally unwell do not belong in a jail cell for a medical crisis, they belong in a mandatory 72-hour psychiatric hold where they can be stabilized by doctors, not guards.

We need to fight to stop this endless cycle of incarcerating mentally unwell adults and replace it with real medical intervention. They need professionals who are willing to sit down with them and talk to them so that therefore they can know how to treat the illness moving forward besides just giving them medicine. Also, the medicine does nothing if they're not willing to take it which could result in them being very paranoid and resentful towards those who are just trying to help them. 

**This petition is not about blaming or judging anyone with mental-health challenges. It is about creating safe, humane, and accessible mental-health facilities so people can receive real treatment instead of just being pushed into the criminal system.**
