St Paulinus Church, Crayford stop removal of graveside tributes in the Russell Stoneham Memorial Garden
The Issue
In their infinite wisdom, the 'powers that be' attached to ST PAULINUS church in CRAYFORD have decided that by the end of this year, all flowers, vases, trinkets and edgings MUST be removed from graves situated in the RUSSEL STONEHAMS memorial garden ONLY (may I state that this does not affect the older graveyard directly surrounding the church, only the newer graveyard situated by the horses field). The reason for this; so the grass will be easier to cut. There are several graves of loved ones (my nan) being one of them. They are not just older people resting there, they include, teenagers, and a toddler, they are parents, children, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, nans and grandads and this is the closest we as relatives can get to them. We tend the graves, place flowers, sit and remember but all this is being taken away. They WANT TO LAY TURF over the graves LEAVING JUST HEADSTONES, like a war graveyard. We as relatives do not want this, we want to be able to place flowers, wreaths at this time of year and other things that will brighten up a sad place, we don't want to remember our loved ones as a piece of turf. I hope the 'powers that be' can sleep at night knowing how devastating this can be to many people. As a family we are absolutely disgusted and outraged at this proposal as are so many other families with loved ones laid to rest there.
