Around 2.8 million animals still suffer and die in German laboratories every year. According to Peta, 150 animal species become extinct every day. A clear decrease is not recognizable and the German government has so far shown little interest in changing this situation. Yet the recitals of the EU Animal Experiments Directive already state that "procedures involving live animals for scientific and educational purposes (are) to be completely replaced as soon as this is scientifically possible". In addition, the red list of endangered species now includes over 30,000 species, more than ever before. Also, 40 percent of amphibian species and 30 percent of sharks and rays are acutely threatened with extinction. We want to change that and this petition is meant to be a sign for the politicians that many people care about the beautiful species diversity of our planet.
