Many families in our community are deeply concerned about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Enquiry Upon Results (EUR) process. Numerous students have applied for a re-mark only to receive results that increase their marks to just one point below the next grade boundary—falling agonizingly short of the grade they were hoping for. For students who are only one mark away from a 7 or the next grade, this is especially disheartening.

In our school alone, approximately 92% of EUR requests have not resulted in a grade increase. Instead, a recurring pattern has emerged: marks are adjusted slightly but consistently stop just short of the threshold required for a higher grade. While this may be coincidental, the frequency of these outcomes has led many students and parents to question whether the process is as transparent and consistent as it should be.

Adding to these concerns, many EUR results this session were returned to schools within just one to two days. While the efficiency is appreciated, such a rapid turnaround raises understandable questions about whether each script received the careful, detailed review that a high-stakes re-evaluation deserves. Given the complexity of IB assessments, many families worry that the speed of the process may have contributed to deserving marks not being fully recognized.

The International Baccalaureate is built on principles of fairness, accuracy, and academic integrity. Because IB results significantly influence university admissions, scholarships, and future opportunities, students deserve complete confidence that every re-evaluation has been conducted with the utmost care.

We are not asking for grades to be awarded unfairly. We are asking for confidence that students receive the marks they have genuinely earned. In light of the consistent pattern of students finishing just one mark below the next grade after EUR, we believe these cases warrant further review.

We respectfully call on the International Baccalaureate to:

1. Conduct an independent review of this examination session's EUR outcomes, particularly the recurring pattern of students finishing one mark below the next grade boundary after re-marking.
2. Re-examine EUR cases where the final result is just one mark away from the next grade boundary, ensuring that these responses receive a fresh, thorough review by senior examiners.
3. Ensure that sufficient time is allocated for all EURs so that speed does not compromise the quality or accuracy of the re-evaluation.
4. Consider introducing an additional quality assurance review for borderline cases where a single mark determines a student's final grade.
