On December 1st employees at Better.com (a mortgage startup aimed at making getting a home loan more accessible) we’re sent a random zoom webinar on their calendar titled “Better Staffing Meeting” which was to take place 30 minutes later. 905 Employees were then immediately terminated on the spot and their computers immediately restarted and locked them out. CEO Vishal Garg followed up this meeting by going into a company all hands webinar and slandering the laid off employees and threatened the rest of his staff that they too could be next.

This fear driven egomaniac has no place in the industry and needs to step down. His lack of accountability and sociopathic tendencies make him unfit to lead.

We demand that Vishal Garg steps down as CEO of Better.

We would also like the company to do right by the employees affected right before the holiday who were only given one month of severance and one month of benefits during a global pandemic as well as a time where hiring managers are on vacation. One month simply is not enough, especially when the terminations were random. There was parents on maternity leave who didn’t realize what was going on and that just isn’t right. 

Step down Vishal, don’t bring all the hardworking people at Better who actually care about the mission down for your incompetence.
