Bettendorf has a fire station located at Crow Creek and Middle Road. Currently this fire house is only staffed from 7pm-7am by volunteer firefighters. It is not staffed at all during the day. This means any emergency during the day, or on a night when no volunteers are available, the fire department will respond from the station on Spruce Hills or State Street.
 
Much of the recent growth in Bettendorf has been the Northeast corner of this city. This portion of the city is underserved by the fire department due to the lack of staffing at this station. A recent medical emergency ended in the death of a 27 year old Bettendorf resident. The young man had an asthma attack. The emergency response did not arrive for 11 minutes because the nearby Crow Creek station was not staffed at that time.
 
There are 3, soon to be 4 schools in the immediate area of this unstaffed fire station. There are many new neighborhoods and a new sports complex. As the city of Bettendorf continues to grow in the Northeast corner, the city services need to extend to meet the needs of the residents and students in this area. We request that the city make immediate plans to fully staff this fire house 24 hours per day with paid firefighters as has been repeatedly requested by the fire department.
