Bethany Hall-Long Must Be Held Accountable

Bethany Hall-Long Must Be Held Accountable
The Issue
Early in July, the Delaware Election Commission received a detailed letter outlining the full extent of irregularities within Bethany Hall-Long’s campaign finance records. Key findings include:
- Dana Long, the campaign treasurer, relied on memory to account for personal expenditures related to the campaign.
- There was no clear record of personal loans made to the campaign by Bethany Hall-Long and Dana Long.
- The campaign failed to maintain formal documentation of loan revenues, relying instead on Dana Long’s memory.
- Over 200 expenditures were made on personal items such as home improvement, groceries, gas, and convenience stores.
- The campaign deposited nearly one million dollars into an unknown account and falsely claimed that the expenditure was toward the Committee to Elect Bethany Hall-Long.
These findings would constitute violations of several regulations outlined in: Title 15, Chapter 80, Subchapter I: General Provisions, Title 15, Chapter 80, Subchapter II: Campaign Contributions and Expenditures Reporting.
These revelations are not just administrative oversights—they point to a serious lapse in ethical and legal standards. As engaged citizens, we must act to preserve the integrity of our political system. Attorney General Kathy Jennings must prosecute Bethany Hall-Long. Hall-Long must be held accountable.
Kathy Jennings has stated her reasoning for not pursuing criminal charges, suggesting that the irregularities might result from carelessness, which would not constitute a violation under a narrow interpretation. While this might be true, that doesn’t defeat the fact there are serious and substantive allegations against Hall-Long.
Bethany Hall-Long must be brought to court and answer for the crimes of which she has been accused. Bethany Hall-Long must be held accountable.
By signing this petition you believe in the rule of law. You believe that criminals should be prosecuted. You believe that Bethany Hall-Long should be held accountable.
