In 2018 I started up a petition in response to word of Apu being dropped from The Simpsons, of which apparently comes from a documentary from 2017. With his return will come a new voice actor after white actors like Hank Azaria decided that it no longer seemed right for them to voice characters of colour in media, especially with accents like Indian ones. With The Simpsons no longer being against recasting characters, a number of characters of colour are now voiced by actual actors of colour, which includes Carl Carlson, Lou the Policeman, Bumblebee Man, Dr. Julius Hibbert, Janey Powell and any other character that's not yellow, the one that still hasn't been seen with his new VA however is of course Apu. Sure The Simpsons has been able to run non-stop for more then 30 years, but it's unlikely that this'll always be the case, heck it might air it's last by the end of the 2020s, so there's a very limited amount of time for Apu and maybe even his wife Manjua to return with their new person of colour VAs. Plus when it comes to a long awaited remaster of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, Apu's return due to his role in that game will need to be done by the time such a thing comes around.
