Rename the City of Kitchener back to Berlin
The Issue
In 1784, the city of Berlin was created in Southern Ontario. The German predominance in the city brought to it a light that few have seen before. Unfortunately, in 1916, in the midst of the First World War, Anti-German sentiment and an increase in prejudice and racism against German people and Mennonites (for their pacifist stance) cause the city of Berlin to be renamed to Waterloo.
Having realized the mistake that was made and to maintain the connection between all Canadians, to ensure that it is known that this kind of intolerance is not tolerated, we propose that we change the name of the City of Waterloo back to the City of Berlin.
"A Lutheran minister was pulled out of his house ... he was dragged through the streets. German clubs were ransacked through the course of the war. It was just a really nasty time period."
Do not let the legacy of this great city be remembered like this.
