I am an independent voter, unimpressed and unexcited by both the Democratic and Republican Party establishments. I believe we need universal single payer healthcare, a raise in the minimum wage, a jobs guarantee, a Green New Deal to address climate change, to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, and more. We need to fundamentally transform society, and Joe Biden cannot deliver this. His record does not stand as a testament of progressive values. His apparent mental health issue are serious cause for concern. Only Bernie Sanders has the policies and preparedness to lead us to a moral and just and secure future. I will only give my vote to Bernie and nobody else. I pledge to sit out the 2020 election unless my candidate is the Democratic nominee. That is my right. I have no duty to a Democratic Party that has forsaken its duty to the average, working person in favor of administering big business-friendly policies to the dearth of little else. I will not support that party unless they, by nominating Sanders (and allowing a fair primary process to proceed), price they have the values and commitment to the policies that will inspire my support. There are millions more, who like me, felt no passion to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and feel equally uninspired by, and even scared of, a Joe Biden candidacy. It is time to change—this country, this party—and in order to wake you up this dire necessity, I pledge to withhold my vote for anyone except Bernie Sanders.
