David is an Air Force Veteran who served for 7 years, both in combat and as an intelligence officer. David also served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Obama Administration and worked in Congress as a senior staffer for U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman. He currently owns a consulting firm that focuses on assisting veteran-owned businesses build private-public partnerships with the federal government. 

He has held leadership positions with the Democratic Party of New Mexico as a precinct chairperson, a ward chairperson, and a county chairperson. David serves on the executive committee of the New Mexico Democratic Veterans Caucus and was recently elected to serve as the 1st Congressional District Vice Chairman for the Democratic Party of New Mexico. He holds an MBA from Georgetown University, and a BA in political science from the University of New Mexico.

David lives in a residential neighborhood near Bandelier Elementary with his wife and best friend, Soleille Lopez-Montoya, their four children, three dogs and two cats.
