Berlin CT Town Council & any potential developers of Pistol Creek.: Leave Pistol Creek in its natural state

The Issue

Many of us know that Pistol Creek is an abandoned golf course that the town bought back at twice the price to save it from becoming condo complexes developed by an out of state builder.  What many of us don't know is how much history is rooted in Pistol Creek, much of which can be traced to the earliest American settlers, evident in the stone foundation still present at the top of the first hill you crest as you enter and head left.  Pistol Creek is also linked to the the historic Simeon North Mill site which goes back prior to the war of 1812.

Up until now, Pistol Creek, to me was all about the trails marked and maintained by the local Boy Scout Troups.  The small ponds and streams running through the area and the chance encounters with wildlife, as I got out to exercise and get back into nature.

What is available and accessible to ALL; dog walkers, horseback riders, walkers, bikers, joggers, cross country skiers, bird watchers, and McGee cross country track team will be jeopardized in the name of "progress"

Fifty or more species of birds, countless native wildlife and their habitat will be harmed or perish in the potential installation of such "progress"  Five fields solely for the use of soccer and lacrosse, a 2 story building for concessions, bathrooms, offices, and storage, and the 105 space parking area, fences, night lighting, pesticides and fertilizer, not to mention noise, traffic, litter, and man's presence will bring about monumental negative change to an area that is thriving now.

As a mom to 3 children who are heavily into sports AND nature, I cannot advocate for anything that leaves the world, or my small corner of it, anything but better,  than how it was lent to me.

Pistol Creek is so much more than just "sports field potential".  Long after the kids that may use the fields are grown and gone, we will still be footing the bill, both financially and environmentally.

Please, leave Pistol Creek in it's natural state!
