University of California- Berkeley to have cheaper tuition during fall online semester

University of California- Berkeley to have cheaper tuition during fall online semester
The Issue
The University of California Berkeley has stated a decision that most instruction for students will be online this fall, this being said they’re not compensating students for the lack of in person classes as well as facilities, they have stated, “As we have communicated previously, tuition and mandatory fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction.” This now leaves in state students as well as out of state students paying the same cost of tuition as in person classes but with lack of guidance, facilities (such as libraries, student groups, resource centers, laboratories), and the full package that comes with attending UC Berkeley. Now in state students are paying $14,000 and out of state students are paying $43,000 to attend the same online classes that will partake at home. It is understood that we are still achieving the same education despite the circumstances of COVID-19, but it would be absurd to charge students 10k-50k dollars a year for an online curriculum. The students of this university are asking for fair prices to be brought to those who have been effected economically by the virus as well as setting a price that meets the needs of out of state and in state students. Therefore we are asking for a better set price point that will still benefit the university but not run college students and their families into more economic disadvantage.
