We, the undersigned, respectfully file this petition and request that Walleye Road be reopened to through traffic immediately.
In support of this petition, your petitioner respectfully states that:
Gating off this road not only affect residents and land owners of Beaverdam Community, but residents from our surrounding counties as well. For our community, many residents use the road as a way of daily access to work. Walleye road helps to limit traveling through heavy traffic on 17-A, Bethera Road, and through Jamestown with limited access points onto Hwy 41. Northern Berkeley County has limited throughways and if an accident occurs it will result in the closure of single-laned 17-A, Walleye Road is often used as a traffic diversion, as well as an access road for fire and rescue vehicles.
This road is also used daily for leisurely activities, as a way for families in the community to access the Francis Marion National forest by bike, golf carts, and walking. Walleye Road is a very popular entry for sportsmen as well.
Lastly, it is a matter of public safety due to the fact that our community is surrounded by the Francis Marion National Forest. The Forestry Service and Fire Departments would need easy access to protect our homes in the event of a forest fire as well as an evacuation route.
