Save Berkeley's Patient's Care Collective from big corporate interest.

The Issue

We, the Undersigned, call on the Berkeley City Council to reject the proposed medical marijuana dispensary application at Amoeba Music located at 2445 Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. The City Council, applicant, and other stakeholders should work together to find a better location in an underserved part of the city.

The proposed dispensary will be located inside a record store just 609 feet from Patients Care Collective (PCC), the city's oldest continuously operating dispensary. That small nonprofit organization has been operating trouble-free for fifteen years. It is unfair put a much larger competing business so close to an existing organization. Doing so will force PCC to close.

All four of Berkeley's licensed dispensaries are located in South Berkeley. If there is a real need for more dispensaries in Berkeley, the applicants and City Council should locate them in underserved neighborhoods. Putting too many dispensaries too close to each other may lead to traffic congestion or nuisance activity. There is no need to create these problems, especially on Telegraph Avenue.
