Ben Moncrieff's Tree

Ben Moncrieff's Tree
The Issue
On the 6th of May 2023, Ben Moncrieff, a much loved son, brother, uncle, grandson, friend, cousin, nephew and boyfriend was tragically and suddenly taken away from all who loved him.
Ben became a victim of knife crime. He was murdered in a completely random and unprovoked act within seconds of the perpetrator meeting Ben.
He stabbed Ben on purpose, in the heart and our dear Ben had no chance of surviving, no matter how hard he fought. We remain so thankful to the amazing paramedics and street wardens who tried in vain to rescue him.
Ben’s death has had a tremendous impact upon those that knew him and the wider community have been shocked and heartbroken by this senseless act.
The world has become a more frightening place and knife crime is becoming commonplace. There have been three such deaths in recent months in our area.
Since that morning Ben’s traumatised family and friends started to put flowers on a tree next to where Ben was taken. Beautiful photographs and cherished memories have been added creating a monument to Ben. Even people who never met Ben have added to the tree and found it a place of comfort and a reminder that this cannot happen again.
Bath and North East Somerset have now stated that they no longer want the tree to have flowers or pictures upon it. They feel it’s time for it to be removed and have even asked that Ben’s devastated mother to remove it herself. Eradicating the strong feelings of all who care.
The tree is near McDonald’s in Bath city centre.
This tree has become a memorial for Ben. A place for quiet contemplation and remembrance. It is such an important place for Ben’s loved ones. Allowing us to keep Ben’s memory alive. For him and this awful crime to never be forgotten.
Anyone who knew Ben is so heart broken, it has been 6 months and it all feels so raw. This is not a pain that is ever going to leave us, it is something we have to live with for the rest of our lives.
Please sign this petition and help us keep this tree in a fitting and appropriate manner.
This is Ben Moncrieff’s tree ❤️
