Many of you have probably heard the news already, but the Salt Lake County Council released a statement yesterday afternoon that they will not seek to override Mayor McAdam's veto of the Olympia Hills rezoning ordinance. This means that the veto will be upheld and the decision to rezone the property in Southwest Salt Lake County is officially reversed! Thank you to Mayor McAdams and the Salt Lake County Council Members for hearing our voices and recognizing our concerns. Thank you to Mayor Staggs of Riverton, Mayor Watts of Herriman, and Councilman DeBry for standing by your communities.
Many have reached out to me in gratitude for my contributions in overturning this decision. While I am extremely appreciative of the thanks I have received, it needs to be recognized that this would not have been possible without every one of us coming together and collectively making a statement. Each and every one of you that signed this petition, sent emails, made phone calls, attended the town hall meeting, and contributed in any other way are just as much a part of this outcome. This is what can happen when a community comes together for a common cause!
Special thanks goes out to all of those who were part of the referendum. Though we ultimately did not need it, there was a lot of time and effort put into making sure we were ready to go with the application process, printing and assembling packets, and communicating with the Clerk's office to ensure we followed proper procedure. Many of you even started the task of gathering signatures. I really believe this was not in vain. Despite the decision eliminating the need for a referendum, the signature gathering was a necessary display of unity that we were prepared and organized as a community in the event that they did not hear our voices.
Finally, I encourage all of us to continue working together and stay aware of new proposals and developments. We all expect continued growth in this area, but let's make sure we are involved in future discussions to ensure that anything moving forward addresses the needs of our growing county AND its current residents.
Thank you again to everyone that contributed to this effort! This is a big win for all of us!
