We have come across two recent examples of minor league teams throwing out their original rebranding ideas after public backlash. We think you’ll find these stories strikingly similar to what we are going through now:
- In 2017, fans of the Gwinnett Braves were forced to choose between "Big Mouths", "Buttons", "Gobblers", "Hush Puppies", "Lambchops" and "Sweet Teas". The team eventually settled on a less embarrassing option: the Gwinnett Stripers.
- In 2018, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox had a fan vote between the "Oysters", "Throttle Jockeys", "Punchy Pikas", "Lamb Chops "and "Happy Campers". The team ended up deciding on something much cooler: The Rocky Mountain Vibes.
Sound familiar? It looks like San Diego sports marketing company Brandiose is trying to follow the exact same playbook with the Snappers. So please don’t give up. This fight is still far from over. If you think the team can do better than Cheeseballs, Moo, Polka Pike, Sky Carp and Supper Clubbers keep speaking out on social media. Or if you have a different idea to rebrand the team please let us know in the comments section below.
