A note to all of you who signed on to our petition to the Belmont Board of Selectmen this summer. As you may have noticed, work has, at long last, commenced on the lawn portion of the project, in keeping with a compromise plan with the Board of Selectmen that followed our successful Special Town Meeting vote in August.
Our success in getting our town leaders to listen to voters and compromise is a direct result of your willingness to sign petitions, write letters and attend BOS meetings to make your feelings known. In short: you got involved, and it made a difference.
That's why I'm writing you today to note that nomination papers are now available for residents to run for Town Meeting and to encourage everyone who was dismayed by the Selectmen's actions in the center to consider running for Town Meeting. You only need to be 18 years old and registered to vote in Belmont. To get the ball rolling, simply visit the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall and pick up your nomination papers. Only 25 signatures are needed to qualify you to run. I've pasted a great article from the Belmontonian that walks you through the process. Town Meeting doesn't take too much time out of your life - a few evenings each year - and is a great way to get to know the town and how it operates -and even to make new friends.
If you are considering running, please drop me a line at paul (at) bloggingbelmont (dot) com. I'd be happy to talk to you about my experience on Town Meeting.
Please consider standing for Town Meeting. Belmont needs your passion and dedication.
Sincerely,
Paul Roberts, Town Meeting Member, P8
