Restore Green Space to Belmont Center

This petition had 537 supporters

In a sparsely attended special hearing last week, Belmont's Board of Selectmen acted unilaterally and without notice, voting to throw out a plan for the reconstruction of Belmont Center- the blueprint for work that has already begun in the Town Center.

The blueprint, known as "Plan A" is the product of years of study and public meetings by the town's Traffic Advisory Committee and adds much-needed green space to the center of town.

However, faced with opposition from a small group of voters, the Board suddenly abandoned that plan, and the express wishes of Town Meeting, which authorized $2.8 million to fund the project in November.

This petition asks the Board of Selectmen, respectfully, to reverse their decision and allow work to go forward on "Plan A," thereby respecting the work of the Traffic Advisory Committee, the wishes of Town Meeting and the voting public.
