Belleville Leaders: Give The Meredith Home A Fighting Chance

The Meredith Home is a structurally-sound, significant property in Belleville's most visible area of Downtown. It is presently on a fast-track to being leveled to create a green space simply because it could not be filled in a window of time when the economy was not suitable to a project of this magnitude.

By signing this we assert that:

1. This building has much potential to bring much-needed tax dollars into the city.

2. The improving economy today is much better than it was in 2009 and the parties interested in investing in this project are proof of its viability.

3. It is imperative that our elected officials hold off on signing any contracts with demolition companies for at least one year.

Our plan offers a win-win-win for all parties concerned. It includes the Susanna Marison Sky Park that is a fitting tribute as well as a destination that Belleville can be proud of and that will attract visitors. It includes creative solutions to businesses to occupy the building and flexible strategies for development. And it represents a city that is boldly stepping into our Bicentennial with a fitting, high-profile flagship property.

Please join us in stepping up to the challenge of one of Belleville's most visible, valuable and beautiful properties.
