We are residents of Dade City, FL specifically in the Darby Community. The recent tragedies that unfolded on Bellamy Brothers Blvd, that has a 45 MPH speed limit, has left our community in shock and mourning. Within two days, we lost two precious lives due to excessive speeding and reckless overtaking of multiple cars. These were not just statistics; they were someone's brother, father, son. How many more deaths will it take for the county commissioners and law enforcement to review our area for better safety measures?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speed-related crashes cost Americans $40.4 billion per year. In 2018 alone, speeding was a contributing factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities (source: NHTSA). We cannot afford to ignore these alarming figures any longer.

We are calling on local authorities to implement stricter speed limit enforcement measures in Dade City immediately. This includes regular patrolling by law enforcement officers, installation of speed feedback signs at strategic locations, update to no passing double yellow lines in areas where private driveways and private roads intersect and increased penalties for those who violate the rules.

Our roads should be safe for all users - drivers, cyclists and school children at roadside bus stops alike. Let us ensure that no more lives are lost due to preventable accidents caused by excessive speed.
