Being the voice for special needs

Being the voice for special needs
The Issue
I have personally experienced the challenges presented when children with behavior disabilities (BD) are mixed with special needs children on school buses. Once, I had to escort a boy with an anklet tracker onto a special needs bus while a girl in a wheelchair who was prone to seizures sat nearby. In such situations, the presence of BD students can divert attention from those who need immediate care, as their disruptive behaviors require constant monitoring.
We cannot ensure the safety and well-being of our special needs children when these unruly BD kids get on the bus and cause disturbances. For instance, due to the necessity of watching over one BD student, another managed to inappropriately touch another. This not only compromises the safety of all students on board but also hinders the special needs children from receiving the attention and care they require.
Children with special needs deserve a transportation environment that is tailored specifically to them, one that minimizes risk and maximizes focus on their unique requirements. By separating BD students from special needs school buses, we can ensure a safer and more conducive environment for learning and well-being.
This is not merely about addressing behavioral issues — it's about prioritizing the safety and promoting the dignity of our most vulnerable children. Implementing separate transportation for BD and special needs students can lead to more personalized care, focused supervision, and ultimately a more nurturing environment for both groups.
Please join me in advocating for the separation of students with behavioral disabilities from special needs buses to create safer, more supportive transportation for our special needs children. Sign this petition to make a difference.
