Bee Friendly and Make Gardens for our Buzzing Friends

The Issue

As Grade 8 students in a changing world, we have regularly been taught and learnt about the bee crisis in the 21 Century. Though this might not seem to be a problem in Mississauga, it definitely is. Bees play a crucial role in pollinating plants, including those that produce the fruits and vegetables we consume daily. However, in Ontario, they help the ecosystem by pollinating food sources for other creatures. Unfortunately we are losing bees, more than we ever have before.

We believe that one solution to their declining population lies with making gardens. By creating bee-friendly gardens throughout our city, we can help revive the bee population and consequently increase food growth.

Creating multiple bee-friendly gardens across Mississauga will not only support these vital pollinators but also contribute to biodiversity and beautify our urban spaces. These gardens would include flowering plants that provide nectar and pollen for bees throughout their life cycle. As a result, our native species will also survive.

We urge the City Council of Mississauga to take immediate action on this matter. Let's work together towards a more sustainable future where all animals have what they need.! Please sign this petition if you stand with us in supporting this initiative.
