Stop the closure of Biggleswade Police Station

Stop the closure of Biggleswade Police Station
The Issue
Bedfordshire Police plan to close Biggleswade Police Station in January 2016. There are currently over 16,500 people living in Biggleswade. It has grown in population by nearly 10% over the past decade. It will continue to do so with 300 new houses off Potton Road and the expansion of the Kings Reach Estate reaching 2100 new homes in the coming years. The population is going to increase rapidly. We also have a major retail park about to be completed which will attract visitors from nearby towns. We have seen recent rises in crime, with cars and vans being broken into and the October 2015 robberies at Morrisons Super Market and London Road Petrol Station. Community policing teams will continue to be based at the station, but it will be by appointment only! However the numbers of PCSO’s (Police Civilian Support Officers) and Investigation Officers are being dramatically cut too. How will this effect the station too? The residents of Biggleswade deserve an active Police Station with teams organised and available 24 hours a day to keep us safe. Please sign and share this petition. We require 2000 signatures. Many thanks. Luke Newman, Biggleswade resident.
