Reverse the Bedford School District's Headgear Mandate for Girl's Lacrosse

Julian Bell started this petition to Bedford School Board

This petition has been created to reverse the current Bedford School District’s girls lacrosse headgear mandate handed down November 12, 2019.

This petition has been created because the Bedford School District’s headgear mandate decision was premature.  Currently, US Lacrosse, the governing body of the sport, has not mandated headgear.

This current mandate forces BHS players to be the only New Hampshire Division 1 team wearing headgear.

This current mandate may create more aggressive play from both Bedford players and their opponents, resulting in more players getting knocked to the ground and possibly resulting in concussions or other injuries.  Headgear does not prevent ground impact concussions.

This is not an “anti-helmet/headgear” petition. We are pro "optional headgear".

This petition will support the results from US Lacrosse's current, comprehensive headgear research which is expected to be completed in late 2021.   At that point, if US Lacrosse, the governing body of the sport, concludes that headgear is safer for all players to use during play, then a US Lacrosse mandate will be supported and followed.

This petition supports players who choose to wear headgear, which US Lacrosse has approved for optional use.

If you want to reverse the Bedford School Board’s headgear mandate for the BHS girls lacrosse team and agree with the above points, please sign this petition!

Thank you!
