Be smart, don't reside at 160 Ross at Auburn.
Why this petition matters
Having the opportunity to reside on campus at Auburn is an exciting thing for many incoming Freshman. Take this warning however as a heed to avoid Auburn housing, especially 160 Ross at all costs. Below are detailed issues encountered by myself and others in the past year of living at this apartment complex:
- Required on campus meal plan for off campus housing. The required meal plan for the 2021-22 school year at Auburn cost $1,300 per semester minimum for 160 Ross. 160 Ross is over a mile away (about a 30 minute brisk walk) from any on campus dining, and one has to walk past downtown to get there. I have personally talked to William Walker (Assistant Director of Campus Dining) about this discontent in person and have seen no change.
- The printers on campus rarely functioned, and when they did housing told residents they were to pay for their own ink and paper.
- Electronic housing keys would lose charge randomly, resulting in losing access to not only the parking garage but to your own front door.
- The hot tub only worked about 1 month during the year, after a petition was threatened to be made to housing authorities. In addition the pool was completely drained the last week of school, when most people were looking forward to using it to kickstart their summer.
- THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR FURNITURE YOU NEVER DAMAGED. A month after moving out, 160 Ross and Auburn housing charged both me and my roommate $550 each for a "couch replacement". Besides the normal wear and tear of a couch that has been used before us by previous renters, there was NO damage done to the couch. Now we both owe $550 to housing, because they are too cheap to pay for their own upgrades in their own housing. This makes me wonder what the rent is paying for if not for the building.
- The parking garage doors only worked half the time, leaving renters stuck with having to drive around the building looking for an open way in.
- Faulty fire alarms going off multiple instances during the night, often at 2am, in freezing conditions. If you want a good night's sleep, don't live here. This not only was disturbing, but it led to lax safety about fire alarms due to their frequency in going off.
- Half of the elevators were broken and you had to call to get out of them.
I have emailed housing. I have done the civil and "kind" things. I have told them of my terrible experience and they do not listen. This is a CALL TO ACTION for Auburn Housing to consider respecting its residents through not just words. Auburn housing, you set a terrible example of respect.
Auburn housing, you have told us you want our feedback and here it is. Auburn students, let's agree to take our business elsewhere (if you need recommendations for better housing I can provide them). Thank you.
