As we can’t run for our futures on a legacy of broken environmental promises, we the undersigned members of the New Democratic Party across Canada demand the BC-NDP immediately declare a moratorium on all old growth logging on Vancouver Island.

As a party that embraces eco-socialist principles, we cannot stand by as the British Columbia NDP government facilitates clear cutting the last standing intact old growth temperate coastal rainforests in our country. We can’t allow this final and irrevocable act of ecocide to continue without raising our collective voices.

New Democrats across Canada oppose logging the final intact coastal rainforest valley on Vancouver Island. The BC NDP ran on a platform that pledged an end to old growth logging but now the BC NDP proposes an end to the last unprotected old growth on the Island. Worth far more standing than on the back of a truck, these ancient forests sustain extraordinary biodiversity and attract visitors from around the world. Once taken, they're gone forever.
