BC Ferries - Fix the Parking Containment Area at Fulford Harbour

BC Ferries - Fix the Parking Containment Area at Fulford Harbour
The Issue
BC Ferries - Fix the Parking Containment Area at Fulford Harbour and give the Residents their Quaint Village back, free from traffic gridlock.
The long suffering Residents of Fulford Harbour and Patrons of Route 4 who use the Fulford Harbour to Swartz Bay Ferry Service deserve relief from the traffic gridlock during peak demand periods. Since the commissioning of the MV Skeena Queen - 25 years ago with its 92 vehicle capacity, when we have a full sailing, traffic is backed up to Beaver Point Rd. This Public Safety issue is not new, in fact its been going on for decades unabated.
There's basically 2 options to enlarge the Parking Containment Area:
- The small parcel of land that BC Ferries purchased 15 years ago, along with an adjacent parcel currently privately owned on the righthand side of the Road entering the Terminal. Opposite to the Mercantile and Shops up the Road on the Southside. With the necessary approval process, which may take many years and then turn the Quaint Village of Fulford into an even bigger paved parking lot.
- Seek approval to enlarge the current parking lot built on rock fill and either pour a concrete pad on top of concrete piles, over the water or place rock similar to what was done in the mid 1970's, to create a larger parking containment area. Adjacent to the existing area and completely away from the Village of Fulford but within easy walking distance to the shops and cafes. This method would be most conforming to the Official Community Plan as it pertains to the Village of Fulford Harbour, amended in 2008.
After 25 years of growth and a population approaching 12,000, it's time to take the Ferry Traffic off our Roadways and clear the oneway traffic gauntlets in the Name of Public Safety at Fulford Harbour.
Please join us in Petitioning the following individuals into finally address this long overdue safety issue in Part 6 of the current BC Ferries Submission to BC Ferries Commissioner - Eva Hage.
- CRD Director - Gary Holman.
- SSI Islands Trust Trustees - Laura Patrick & Jamie Harris.
- Our New BC Ferries CEO - Nicholas Jimenez.
- Our New BC Ferries Chair of the Board - Joy MacPhail.
- Our MLA - Adam Olsen.
- Our Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure - Rob Fleming along with his Government can fix this traffic nightmare for the Safety of all Residents and Patrons for the next 50 years.
Please join us on Tuesday , February 28, 2023 at the Harbour House Hotel for the Meeting between BC Ferries and our Ferry Advisory Committee at 2:00PM to 4:00PM and the a Public Drop In between 5:00PM and 6:30PM.
