UK mainstream media must cover the destruction of the war memorial at Jaffna University.

The Issue

The destruction of the Mullivaikkal War Memorial at the Jaffna University Campus in Sri Lanka is shockingly disrespectful. This memorial was assembled in memory of the victims of the 2009 Mullivaikkal massacre in the last phase of the Sri Lankan Civil war. This memorial had NOT BEEN AUTHORISED by the government, hence the government order to REMOVE all such unauthorised structures. However, all memorials sponsored by the Sri Lankan state seem to glorify the GOVERNMENT'S VICTORY, NOT of HONOURING the DEAD TAMIL SOLDIERS and TAMIL CIVILIANS from the war. Perhaps the government would never have authorised Tamil memorial structures? News regarding Tamil injustice is NEVER shared widely, or it gets FORGOTTEN within days. Tamil people do NOT get WORLDWIDE SUPPORT or TRENDING HASHTAGS. It has always been up to the Tamil diaspora to share news about the INJUSTICE in Sri Lanka, but that is NOT ENOUGH. In the face of corruption, Tamil people need support from ALL people. For that to happen, EVERYONE, regardless of their race or ethnicity, must seek to aid people in vulnerable or exploitable positions. The UK mainstream media MUST cover these issues WITH HASTE, before it is TOO LATE. This way, EVERYONE will learn about the struggles faced by our Tamil people in Sri Lanka. Our story must never be forgotten!
