My 11-year-old sister, who just happens to have a learning disability so severe that  (LIKE MANY MANY OTHERS) MAKATON  (a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech) is her main way of communicating, can only watch one tv show that uses MAKATON, every other TV show is like watching say, a French movie without subtitles- really really confusing.

I'd like you to think about how many TV apps there are at the moment, well- there's Disney+, there is Netflix, Prime Video, Sky, Apple Tv and so many, many more. Now although many of these big tv apps don't have any TV shows that use MAKATON, which is certainly not ok but it's understandable. Most of the CEOs themselves probably don't even know what MAKATON is!

However, I feel like it is different with BBC iplayer, they already have ONE tv show using MAKATON, they are the only TV app in the WORLD which has one, but it is for children! It features on CBeebies, it is mainly for toddlers (who don't have learning disabilities) if they choose to want to watch it. But, since it is the only TV show using MAKATON, there is no choice in the matter for MAKATON users. If they don't watch it they won't have a TV show they can understand!

So what about teenagers and adults who use MAKATON? Obviously, the people in power don't care, because if they did, surely the situation would be much more different. It seems crazy that things like TV can't cater for everyone's needs. Sign this petition for a TV show, not for all ages, but mature and interesting, because this is what everyone in the MAKATON community deserves.
