To release every episode of 'The Real McCoy' TV show on DVD.
The Issue
Running on BBC2 between 1991 and 1996, The Real McCoy featured an array of black comedy talents including Leo Muhammad, Felix Dexter, Llewella Gideon and Curtis Walker, with the programme being widely recognised as one of the most iconic black British comedy shows ever.
Since coming off air, the series has never been repeated on any BBC channel (remember, it’s not just BBC One and BBC Two, there are also satellite channels BBC Three and BBC Four). We want the BBC to realise all episodes on DVD.
Following the recent passing of two talented members of The Real McCoy team, the need for the DVD release of the show is now more urgent than ever.
The Real McCoy is a unique insight that relates and informs on the lives and experiences of the generations born or raised in Britain following settlement of parents from the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
The creative talents of The Real McCoy team made lasting humour, strongly evidenced by the show’s increasing popularity from exposure on YouTube and the live shows by cast members.
There is no other existing body of work of this kind in existence and its general release on DVD will not only preserve the unique talents of the writers and actors but is a golden opportunity for the BBC to acknowledge and document vital and recent British history.
