Reinstatement & Continuity Of The BBC Radio, Phil Butler Show

The Issue

For a decade, presenter Phil Butler has presented an engaging and cross-generational radio show across several BBC regions on Friday and latterly Saturday nights.

The show has for the most part featured the very best music fro the 1970s and 80s and has built up a regional following who have become a virtual family, in some cases listening from other parts of the globe, but coming together to take part in the competitions, share memories and discuss the music of what is one of the most varied of musical eras. In effect it was a night out without the risks.

The slots filled by the show were perfect for the length of the show, and were something that many, many people looked forward to.

The BBC in it's wisdom is not adding to the quality of it's service by streamlining or standardising local radio, replacing engaging and varied shows with bland 'talk radio' or presenters who are trying to be all things to all people.

This petition serves as a call to the BBC to cease the plans for 'one size fits all' radio programming and to consider the needs of those who pay for what is increasing the 'sick man of entertainment'.

Furthermore, and specifically, we ask that Phil Butler be retained across the region.
