Cancel the cancellation of Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle by the BBC.
The Issue
The BBC in its infinite wisdom has decided to cancel the superbly intelligent, witty and relevant Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle from its programming schedule. Despite being one of the most well-received programmes broadcast, the BBC have felt it isn't right to keep making these episodes.
Stewart Lee's insightful, honest and frank discussion of political and social situations is source of both exquisite comedy and close-to-the-bone discussion. It is maybe due to his liberal agenda that the BBC has deemed it too left-wing to support in lieu of more politically central programmes.
The BBC have cited funding cuts as the reason for axing the programme and have decided to focus more on scripted comedy, despite Comedy Vehicle still averaging a million viewers per episode in a climate where viewing figures are dropping across the board.
Whatever their reasons are for its cancellation, it will be a sore loss to the comedic offerings of a respected channel, and their lack of appreciation of Stewart Lee's work has cast a shady light over the BBC's political ideologies.
