Vicente, the district manager, and I had a productive discussion today and expressed our feelings. He did not want the cats to go unfed and was surprised the board turned in that direction. Although both he and the Board president agree the cats should not go unfed, it was a Board decision and the Board must readdress the issue. He cannot speak for the Board. Vicente said of all the callers have been respectful except for one. I think there was a misunderstanding with a caller. He did not say I was rude or a thorn in his side but that I was obstinate for not making the option of moving the cats out and working with him. I explained many things from my perspective. I had given much thought about all the options available BEFORE the meeting and--as the colony caretaker--I did not agree the cats should relocate. He said he was at fault for running into my car but it was an accident. He agreed it could be a wake-up call for him to be more careful when backing up. He also said he thought me going onto their private property was a liability issue. He regretted that he did not ask me not to drive back there earlier and the accident could have been prevented. He said it was not a liability issue with me feeding from the front except the small rock bank incline. I showed him the loose rocks on the front walk and he said he was planning to get that area paved. I said that could be a long term solution but short-term he may want to think about removing the loose rocks. We have not yet discussed the vacuum effect about moving all the cats out and new cats moving in. Although I would not be feeding in this option, it is prime location for cats with a fence and protection from predators. Sunday when I was feeding the only cat, who feeds in the front, a dog from a nearby yard was running free and chased Tina. How am I supposed to move the cats out of the property when they feel protected by the fence and trees? We discussed the value of cats for controlling the rodent population. He has a barn with many rodents but does not have cats as his dogs are predatory. We walked to the edge of the property and discussed additional options. We both agree we have a good relationship and look forward to meeting later this week.
