Students are suffering as a result of Baylor’s new attendance policy and it’s time for change. We are calling for abolition of the university’s new policy along with a return to the more flexible attendance policy seen in semesters past. (EX. Fall 2021) This new policy is harmful for both the students and the university’s reputation by virtue of the following:

1. Making absences count against students’ grades discourages students from being tested for covid for fear of losing points in class. This will no doubt raise the infection rate given infected students may elect to forego testing and go to class, thereby spreading the variant to others.

2. This attendance policy demonstrates an utter lack of regard for student wellbeing on behalf of Baylor’s administration. At a university which claims to put its students first, putting them in such needless danger of infection would certainly demonstrate the contrary. 

There is no doubt that the entirety of Baylor’s student body is outraged by this decision and this petition seeks to demonstrate the widespread student outrage at this ludicrous and endangering new policy. The students of Baylor will not stand for being put in danger by the very school we’ve entrusted with our tuition money.
