Bay Area Hospital Board

The Issue

To the Residents of Coos Bay and Surrounding Communities:

As taxpayers and stakeholders, we entrust the Bay Area Hospital board to responsibly manage our community hospital, ensuring access to quality healthcare and maintaining its financial sustainability. Unfortunately, recent actions and decisions have demonstrated significant failures in leadership, transparency, and accountability.

We, the undersigned, hereby declare a vote of no confidence in the current board of Bay Area Hospital. Immediate action is required to restore trust, resolve financial issues, and ensure that our hospital remains a community-owned asset.

Reasons for This Petition

1. Financial Mismanagement:

The hospital's financial instability and discussions of selling or leasing the facility to external systems show a failure to manage resources effectively.

2. Lack of Transparency:

The board has failed to communicate clear information about the hospital’s financial standing, potential solutions, and opportunities for community input.

3. Loss of Community Trust:

Decisions made without public engagement have eroded faith in the board’s ability to prioritize the interests of the people it serves.

4. Failure to Explore Viable Alternatives:

The board has not adequately pursued alternative strategies, such as grants, local funding, or operational improvements, before resorting to talks of selling or leasing.

Our Demands

We demand the following actions to protect Bay Area Hospital and its vital role in our community:

1. Immediate Resignation of at Least 50% of the Board:

New leadership is needed to rebuild trust, bring fresh ideas, and ensure the hospital's future.

2. Appointment of Community-Focused Leaders:

Vacant positions should be filled by individuals with healthcare expertise, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining local ownership.

3. Commitment to Transparency and Public Input:

All decisions impacting the hospital’s future must involve public consultation, town halls, and accessible financial reports.

4. Comprehensive Exploration of Alternative Solutions:

The board must present and prioritize strategies other than selling or leasing the hospital, such as grants, partnerships, and community-driven funding.
