Recently, BASIS International Schools • China ("BISC") has decided to make wearing school uniforms a requirement for all students at BASIS. As a curriculum-wide policy change, this new requirement has not been previously discussed by the student body or the Student Councils. 

While BISC claims many merits of wearing school uniforms, it is both disrespectful and unreasonable to make such a significant policy change without informing or discussing the matter with students, parents, or even the administration at individual schools. Regardless of how important BISC Administration believes school uniforms are, it is unacceptable to make such change while ignoring the voice of the student body. In addition, even though the school "promises it will not mark up the prices to make any profits," BISC has a known history of constantly raising tuition to ensure its expansion in China. It is hard to believe that the school will not try to earn more profits from this lucrative business.

If the school uniform policy is imposed, it will only send out a message to BISC that they are free to make important administrative decisions without considering students' opinions. As such, this policy must be revoked immediately. We hope the school will reconsider the policy while listening to the thoughts of students, teachers, and administrators this time.
