Electronic usage has been a long-debated problem among parents, students, and teachers. In the modern education system, many institutions begin to realize the benefits of using electronics and have even promoted them as a tool of note-taking, student collaboration, and student research. However, many STEM schools such as BASIS.ED still maintains the viewpoint that such use of digital devices is prohibited in the classroom. Because they believe that the use of digital devices might distract students' attention and might result in poor test performance. Quite contrary, research has shown that proper use of digital devices in class actually increase the productivity of students and even increase in their collaboration skill.

What about the improper use of digital devices in class some may ask

Yes, Schools might be concerned about the improper use of digital devices in class ( browsing social media, chatting with friends, watching disturbing videos). However, they can simply restrict social media access from the student, which automatically eliminates potential distractions from digital devices.

Our Proposal

-  Laptop / Notetaking device usage should be allowed in BASIS classroom

-  Electronic devices such as Cell phones, game systems, radios, portable music players, etc... should still be prohibited in school as well as in class

-  Allow in-class collaboration notes between students

-  Implementation of Active Learning Exercises (Kahooit, Survey activities, class-time research, etc...)
