Baruch Immigrant Student Success Center
Baruch Immigrant Student Success Center
The Issue
Immigrant and undocumented students at Baruch College are significantly impacted by a lack of tailored institutional support. These students face a range of complex challenges including financial hardship, legal uncertainty, and social isolation that can hinder their academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being. Without access to targeted resources, they are left to navigate these difficulties largely on their own.
If these gaps in support remain unaddressed, immigrant and undocumented students may continue to fall behind academically, disengage from campus life, or even drop out entirely. On the other hand, providing dedicated staff, a physical campus space, and access to programmatic funding can empower these students to thrive academically and personally, enriching the entire Baruch community with their diverse experiences and perspectives.
With growing national attention on equity and inclusion, Baruch College has a timely opportunity to lead by example. Immediate action to establish an Immigrant Student Success Center will not only affirm the college’s commitment to supporting all students but also ensure that immigrant and undocumented students receive the vital resources and sense of belonging they urgently need, right now.
